How much does a social media agency cost in 2026

Real market ranges, the pricing models behind them, and why the same brief gets quoted at wildly different levels.

social-media-agency

A social media agency in France charges between 800 and upwards of 12,000 euros a month depending on scope, excluding ad spend. That spread is not opacity: it reflects services with almost nothing in common, from running two accounts to a continuous production setup. This article lays out the ranges observed on the French market, the three pricing models in use, and the variables that explain why the same brief gets quoted at 3,000 euros by one agency and 12,000 by another.

What you are actually buying from a social media agency

A social media engagement is the external ownership of a brand's presence on social platforms: editorial strategy, content production, publishing, moderation and reporting. It is not a project delivered once, it is a service held month after month.

That nature explains the pricing structure. You are not paying for a number of posts, you are paying for production capacity and expert time mobilised continuously. An agency selling a post volume with no audience objective is selling a deliverable, not an outcome.

First thing to check on any quote: agency fees and ad budget are two separate lines that add up. A management retainer never includes media buying.

The price ranges observed in France

Social media agency pricing reads on two levels: a recurring monthly amount for ongoing management, and a total mission budget when the setup goes beyond day to day running.

Monthly, the rate cards published by French agencies in 2026 converge on three tiers. Running two platforms simply sits around 800 to 1,500 euros. A full engagement for a mid sized company, covering strategy, creation and campaign management, sits between 1,500 and 5,000 euros. An ambitious multi platform setup with continuous production runs from 6,000 to 12,000 euros and beyond.

On a mission basis, a benchmark built on more than 120 French budgets puts the median social media engagement at 13,500 euros, with ongoing presence management between 5,000 and 10,000 euros, a full strategy between 13,000 and 25,000 euros, and a large scale brand activation above 50,000 euros.

These figures are indicative and vary widely with sector, production rhythm and the seniority involved. They give an order of magnitude, not a price.

The three pricing models

The pricing model shapes the final cost as much as the scope does. Three formats coexist on the French market, and they do not suit the same business rhythms.

The monthly retainer covers a defined scope for a fixed amount. It is the clearest model, suited to a regular and predictable presence. Its risk: a vague scope that expands month after month without the amount being revisited.

Project based billing covers a bounded mission: a launch, an editorial overhaul, a campaign. It suits brands with strong seasonality, who often do better combining a light retainer with occasional projects than committing to a large monthly figure they underuse half the year.

Retainer plus commission adds a percentage on the ad budgets managed, typically in the 10 to 20 percent range, and sometimes a commission on creator partnerships. This model is common among agencies combining social media and influence. It calls for close reading of the contract.

What makes one quote three times another

Five variables explain most of the gap between two proposals that look alike on paper.

  • Production volume and type. Static visuals and shot video do not mobilise the same teams. Moving to native video is the single biggest driver of cost difference.
  • Number of platforms. Each additional channel means an adaptation, not a repost. TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn codes do not recycle.
  • Seniority involved. A setup led by a senior profile costs more than junior execution. This is often the real difference behind two distant quotes.
  • Expected responsiveness. Daily moderation, crisis handling, the ability to produce on a news topic within 48 hours: those commitments carry a price.
  • Influence scope. As soon as an engagement includes creator casting and management, the cost logic changes, a topic we cover in our article on the cost of recruiting influencers.

How to read a quote without getting it wrong

A social media quote should be judged on three things rather than on its total.

The first is a clear split between fees and media budget. A quote that blends them makes comparison impossible and often hides a lighter engagement than advertised.

The second is the deliverable detail: number and nature of content pieces, formats, whether moderation is included, reporting frequency. A vague scope always ends in disappointment or a change order.

The third is ownership of access. Your pages, ad accounts and audiences must stay in your name. That is a contractual point, not a technical detail.

Finally, insist on metrics. A presence without measurement cannot be steered. Engagement, growth and conversions should be tracked, and the measurement framework agreed from the start.

Agency, freelance or in house hire

The choice between an agency, a freelancer and an internal role comes down to the nature of the need more than the headline cost.

A freelancer suits a stable, limited scope with one dominant skill. An in house hire makes sense once social becomes a core channel and the volume genuinely fills a full time role. An agency brings a multi disciplinary team, elastic production capacity and an outside perspective, but requires steering on the brand side.

In practice, many brands combine the two: an internal social lead for coordination and product knowledge, an agency for strategy and production.

Where Sleeq stands

At Sleeq, a creative social and influence agency based in Paris, we build each setup around the brand's business rhythm rather than a standard rate card. Scope, production volume and pricing model are defined after the framing stage, not before.

We do not publish fixed pricing, for a simple reason: two brands in the same sector with the same number of platforms can have very different production needs. A figure quoted before the brief is either oversized or undeliverable.

Social media agency pricing FAQ

How much does a social media agency cost per month in France?

Rate cards observed in 2026 range from roughly 800 euros a month for basic management of two platforms to over 12,000 euros for a multi platform setup with continuous video production. A full engagement for a mid sized company most often sits between 1,500 and 5,000 euros monthly. These figures cover agency fees and never include ad spend, which is paid separately to the platforms.

Is ad spend included in the retainer?

No, in almost every case. Agency fees cover strategy, creation and management. Media buying on Meta, TikTok or LinkedIn is a separate line paid directly to the platforms. Some agencies also apply a commission on the budgets they manage, often in the 10 to 20 percent range. This point should be clarified before signing to avoid surprises later.

Why can two quotes for the same brief differ threefold?

Because the services are not comparable even when the labels look alike. Production type, particularly the shift from static visuals to shot video, the number of platforms genuinely adapted for, the seniority of the profiles involved and the level of responsiveness expected all move the cost considerably. The only way to compare is to demand the deliverable detail.

Retainer or project based: which is better?

It depends on your seasonality. A brand with steady activity benefits from a monthly retainer, which guarantees continuous presence and a mobilised team. A brand with sharply defined peak moments often does better combining a light retainer with occasional projects, rather than committing to a high monthly figure it will only fully use a few months a year.

Does an agency cost more than an in house community manager?

Not mechanically. An internal role carries a full cost well above gross salary, plus tools, video production that is often outsourced anyway, and no cover during leave. An agency pools several skills within one budget. Hiring in house becomes relevant when the volume justifies a durable full time role and the brand wants to own the knowledge internally.

How long do you commit to a social media agency?

Common commitments run from three to twelve months. Too short a period makes any effect impossible to measure, since a social presence builds over several months of regular posting. A long commitment should come with a scope review clause, so the setup can be adjusted against observed results rather than simply rolled over unchanged.

In short

Social media agency pricing always reads on two levels: what the retainer covers, and what sits on top of it. Between 800 and 12,000 euros a month, the gap comes down to production type, number of platforms and seniority involved, never to chance. A quote is compared on deliverable detail, not on its total.
